Place D’Orleans

Place D’Orleans

Place D’Orleans was originally built in 1979, but expanded to its current size in 1990. The property is about 76,500 square feet. It was one of the last fully-enclosed malls built in Canada. In my mind, the current trend in today’s era of big-box “power centers” can’t compete with a fully-enclosed mall when the weather is rainy or snowy! The mall is well lit, spacious, boasts marble floors, and is fully air-conditioned or heated, depending on the season.

The mall is anchored by Zellers, The Bay, The Bay Home Store and numbers about 175 other stores. There is a food court on the second level. Place D’Orleans really has something for everyone: electronics for the men, clothing and jewellery stores for the women, toys for the kids, music stores for the teens, as well as all types of service stores, so you can multi-task while you browse.

Blend in Like A Native

The mall is pronounced the French way, as in ‘PL-AH-SS / DOR(roll the r!)-LAY-ANS’. Or for those who have no hope of getting that rolled "r" right (it’s really hard!), simply ‘PL-AH-SS’. We’ll know what you are talking about.
